A long day, but a good one

Horse show went reasonably well today, I'm not 100% thrilled with my ride but all in all, we did well. He was 1st, 2nd, and 4th over fences and 4th in the hack. The show was running ridiculously slow, so our class was moved from the big hunter ring (which is a nice big ring with plenty of room) to the side ring, which is really a pony ring and just not good for him. We've decided that if that happens again, it's probably not really worth it for us to show him. It's just too small for him, so he can't get a nice rolling canter, it's harder to get the changes, and the lines are set really short, which is tough for a big horse. He was a good boy, just never quite relaxed. I'm going to think about why that happened a little bit more and then I'll do my full horse show journal, since I'm totally beat at the moment.

Also, since Kate asked (thank you!), Julie is making progress down in Florida. She now walks quietly from the field to the barn without any antics, though she did test the waters quite a bit at first. She doesn't like baths, so she's getting one every other day -- which I love. So from what I hear, sounds like things are moving in the right direction down at Stones Throw!

  1. Thanks for the report on Julie - progress is good - she'll learn to chill on the baby behaviors before you know it.

Your placings don't sound too bad - perhaps everyone else was having the same trouble with the ring that you did! That is annoying that they switched it - you'd wish show facilities had adequate rings (or kept classes on schedule) so that didn't happen.

  2. Congrats! It sounds like you did not have the best ride of your life, but to get a 1st, 2nd and two 4ths at an A rated show is a feat not a lot of people can accomplish even on the best of days.

  3. Some days I wonder why H/J shows don't have ride times like dressage shows--it would be harder for the organizers, but so much easier for everyone else.

    Good job!

  4. Julie sounds like she is coming along really well! Bummer about the show but sounds like you and Tucker were still successful. You learnt things though! :o)
